Navigating Systems Without Losing Your Voice
At the Center for Independent Living in Central Florida, we know that raising a child with a disability comes with many challenges, and that is often because the systems in schools and everyday environments do not always have the proper support necessary to ensure that your child’s needs are met. Likewise, when it comes to therapy and community resources, finding the ones that best support your child can be overwhelming. That is why the Family Disability Navigator Program here at CIL is here to help guide you every step of the way.
Through our program, we support children with disabilities from ages 3 to 22. It does not matter whether they have a formal disability diagnosis, are currently receiving therapy of any kind, or have an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan in school. We believe that no matter what, families deserve the opportunity to have their child’s needs identified and supported. With that, we also provide assessments and create personalized pathways to services that support your child every step of the way.
Navigating disability services can feel overwhelming, but families do not have to do it alone. The Family Disability Navigator Program is designed to simplify complex systems, meet families where they are, and prioritize family choice every step of the way. Our program provides tailored guidance, advocacy, and personalized support to help families navigate services with confidence and clarity while making informed decisions that reflect their unique needs and goals, not just the options available.
It is not only important for schools to inform parents about the rights and resources their children with disabilities deserve and should receive within their education, but families also deserve clear information about the programs, services, and support available to them. All families should have access to resources that can help their child receive a better and more equal level of education. A child’s disability should never result in unfair or different treatment within the school system.
Through the Family Disability Navigator Program, we are helping families and their children with disabilities build a stronger, more powerful voice that can finally be heard within a world that is still working toward equal treatment for those who deserve it. We understand the difficulty that comes with expressing feelings for those who cannot convey them verbally, and our program is designed to help your child be heard and build the skills needed to express those feelings in the way that works best for them. We want to make sure they can develop skills and have the support needed to access resources that are integral to their future, from information and referrals for a formal disability diagnosis to IEP and 504 planning, support groups, parent education, and case management.
The Center for Independent Living in Central Florida is here to guide you and your child every step of the way so that, together, we can build a brighter future for everyone.
