Independence. Opportunity. Access.
For 50 years, the Center for Independent Living in Central Florida (CIL) has helped people with disabilities live independently, pursue their goals, and have full access to independent lives according to their own goals.
Founded in 1976 by passionate disability advocates, we are a consumer-driven nonprofit organization, meaning that the people we serve help shape the work we do. Rather than making decisions for individuals with disabilities, we provide the tools, resources, advocacy, and support they need to make decisions for themselves.
Our programs help people access housing, employment, transportation, assistive technology, independent living skills training, peer support, youth transition services, and advocacy. Every day, we work with consumers and families to remove barriers that stand between people and the lives they choose to live.
Our Center proudly serves Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk, Hardee, Highlands, and DeSoto counties and is part of a nationwide independent living movement founded on disability rights, accessibility, and self-determination.
As we celebrate 50 Years , we remain focused on the future: where all people can achieve their goals and independence is possible for all.
Our Mission
CIL, in partnership with the community, promotes personal rights and responsibilities among all people with disabilities and strives to eliminate architectural, communication and attitudinal barriers by providing education, resources and training to enhance self-determination through informed choice.Â
Our Vision
To preserve the dignity and respect of people with disabilities through full access and full integration in society.
