Why it’s Important to Hire People with Disabilities

There are many advantages for employers to hire people with disabilities; some of these benefits include increased knowledge about how to provide services to people with disabilities, increased workplace diversity, new and different perspectives that can be applied to solving problems, and new insight into the needs of customers.

Staying Safe during Falls Prevention Awareness Week

The goal of National Falls Prevention Awareness Week is to prevent falls in older adults by increasing education, awareness, and providing interventions. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, over one in five older adults (65+) experiences a fall.

Voters with Disabilities Still Face Barriers

The right to vote is one of the most important responsibilities of U.S. citizens. All voters are ensured that their interests and voices are represented when they cast their votes. Despite this, fairvote.org states that the U.S. Constitution provides no explicit right to vote and as a result, some citizens have fewer rights than others.


National Disability Voter Registration Week (September 13-20)

This year, National Disability Voter Registration Week is September 13 - 20. This is a time to empower voters with disabilities to exercise their right to vote. National Disability Voter Registration Week is coordinated by the American Association of People with Disabilities and REV UP which stands for “Register, Educate, Vote, Use your Power!”

National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Highlight: Employment Program Trains People with Disabilities for Real-World Jobs

March celebrates National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, since it was proclaimed by President Reagan in 1987 with the purpose of “[raising] public awareness of the needs and the potential of Americans with developmental disabilities” and to provide the “encouragement and opportunities they need to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential.”
